Workshops included

Stuart Gill - Freehand to Illustrator conversion - A core tool for many cartographers, Freehand's acquisition by Adobe has posed some questions as to its future. This workshop looked at some of the issues raised, and explored some possible solutions for users of both packages.

Steve Coast - OpenStreetmap - OpenStreetMap is a project aimed squarely at creating and providing free geographic data such as street maps to anyone who wants them. The on-line editor allows you to upload, share and trace your GPS tracks on top of free aerial and satellite imagery. The data created can then be used for free in lots of different ways that often aren't possible with commercial mapping. Steve toured us through the concept and the project.

Jayne Hill - Map Info: Jane explores aspects of the Map Info system

Chris Moore - Anquet maps. 3D visualisation of terrain for walking and cycling maps.

Richard Treves - Google Earth. Think you know Google Earth? Richard revealed some of the subtleties of the tool.

Allan Williams - TARA - "Mini-visit", Keele Aerial Reconnaissance Archive. TARA holds over 5 million images of Europe taken during WWII and is turning these into terrabytes of data. Allan reviewed the data-handling problems, solutions and methods.
